Aims: what is the purpose of the Aircraft Performance Database?

The Aircraft Performance Database is intended to be an educational and reference tool.

It should allow users to search for one or more aircraft and then view data associated with the aircraft. This data includes identification, recognition and performance details.

The content is provided 'as is' and cannot be guarenteed as accurate. It should therefore not be used operationally.

Technical requirements: what does my computer need to run the Aircraft Performance Database?

The Aircraft Performance Database is designed to be accessed over the Internet by basic specification computers. It has been tested on the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6, Firefox 1.5 and Opera 8.54. There may be slight variation in appearance across browsers but the functionality should be the same. Browsers should have Javascript and cookies enabled. The interface has been designed for a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768. The details page requires the Flash plugin (version 6 or greater).

You can download the Flash plugin here.

Tabs: what are the tabs at the top of the page for?

The four tabs along the top of the page; "Search", "Advanced", "Details" and "Help" allow you to quickly access the different pages of the Aircraft Performance Database. The "Search" page lets you review sets of aircraft that can be filtered by 'group', 'ICAO' and 'Name'. The "Advanced" page give you many more filter options upon which to base your search.

If you select the ICAO of the returned aircraft on the "Details" and "Advanced" pages you will be taken to the "Details" page which shows more data about the selected aircraft.

If a set of aircraft are returned on the "Search" or "Advanced" pages and you then select the "Details" tab, you will be shown details for the first aircraft in the returned set.

While you navigate the tabs, any basic search you have made (group, ICAO and name) should be maintained across the pages e.g. if you search for aircraft on the "Search" page, then use the "Help" tab to visit this page, you can return to the "Search" page and the previous search you made will be remembered.

More details for each page are given in FAQ's below.

Search tab: how do I make a quick search?

Select the "Search" page. You can press the 'Search' button to return all the available aircraft. Notice that if more than 10 aircraft are returned, 'paging' numbers will become visible at the top and bottom of the returned set. This allows you to view the sets in groups of 10.

If you wish to further refine your search, you have three options:

- Aircraft group: select aircraft from within a specific group
- Aircraft name contains: enter a letter, number or combination that you want the names of the returned aircraft to contain
- ICAO code contains: enter a letter, number or combination that you want the ICAO code of the returned aircraft to contain

If you edit more than one of these options, the parameters are combined in the search on a logical 'AND' basis e.g. returned aircraft will include aircraft in the 'Long range/wide body jet aircraft" group AND the ICAO code should contain the phrase 'A3'.

Select the ICAO code or Aircraft name of any of the returned aircraft to see more data on that aircraft in the "Details" page.

Advanced tab: how can I search using more specific parameters?

The "Advanced" page is fundamentally the same as the "Search" page except that more search parameters have been added to allow you to be more precise in your search or to search more types of aircraft data. Again, if more than one search parameter is entered, they will be combined using the 'AND' operator.

On the right hand column, as well as the group, name and ICAO fields, you will see three more:
- "TYPE" (the Type Code of the aircraft)
- "WTC" (the Wake Turbulence Category)
- "APC" (the Approach Category Code)

In the "Performance Filters" area on the left you will see five categories of performance data: "Initial Climb", "Climb to FL150", "Climb to FL240", "Cuise" and "Approach".

By selecting the title or the icon you will open up the options for that group. Click these again to close the group options.

Within each group are the search parameter fields for that group. Each search parameter field allows you to enter a value (which must be of the correct format e.g. numbers or decimals). Each parameter aslo has a drop down menu next to it with four options that affect the way that field operates:

- "=" (returned results must exactly equal the value in the search field)
- "OR >" (returned results must be equal to or greater than the search field)
- "OR <" (returned results must be equal to or less than the search field)
- "+/-" (returned results must have a variation around the search field by a given tolerance)

When the "+/-" option is selected, another field will appear to let you enter a tolerance value.

As an example, if you enter 500 in the search field and 100 in the tolerance field, results will return any values between 400 (500-100) and 600 (500+100).

Details tab: I want to see more detail about the aircraft returned in the basic and advanced searched. What do I do?

If the "Search" or "Advanced" pages return any results, you can select an aircraft's ICAO to go to the "Details" page and see more details for that aircraft. Some fields may be empty. Be aware that this can mean that the field does not apply to that aircraft or the database contains no data for that aircraft.

At the top of the right hand column are the tools that let you navigate through the list of aircraft that was returned in the original search so you can view more detail about each one. Either use the "<< Prev" and "Next >>" links to step through the set or select a specific ICAO from the drop down menu to go directly to that aircraft.

There may be more than one photo available for each aircraft. If this is the case, 'paging' numbers will appear above the photo allowing you to step through the photos. If there is a larger version of the photo available, an "enlarge" icon will appear. Selecting this will pop up a new window with the larger photo in it. Select the photo to close the pop up window. Large photos will be gradually added once the database has been launched.

Printing: how do I print what I see on the screen?

To print what you can currently see on the screen simple select the icon at the top of the right hand column. This should automatically bring up the print dialouge window in your browser. The printed pages will have a different format for optimised printing.

Font size: I find the text hard to read as it is too small, how do I increase the text size?

At the bottom of the right hand column on every page is a box that has the phrase "Adjust text size:" followed by three different size letter A's. Select each letter to adjust the size of the text on the page. Your choice should be saved into a cookie on your computer so it should remain the same as you navigate the database.

Feedback & bugs: how do I provide feedback or report a bug?

If you have any suggestions for improvement, general feedback or you wish to report a bug please send details to: dragan.milanovski@eurocontrol.int.

If you are reporting a bug or an improvement you should include your contact details, the location in the Aircraft Performance Database you are referencing e.g. the "Advanced" page, and the actions you had taken e.g. which search fields were being used.
